Shakira Releases New Album - ABC News

Dec. 2, 2005 — -- Before she made it big in the English-speaking world with her hits "Whenever, Whenever" and "Underneath Your Clothes," Shakira was Latin music's "it girl." Since the mid-1990s, she has topped the charts with songs like "Estoy Aqui" (I am here) and "Tu" (You).
A native of Colombia, Shakira, 28, is half-Lebanese. The New York Times recently dubbed her the new face of global music for using her Arabic and Latin heritage in her songs and dancing. She is famous for her gyrating dance moves that seem to defy the laws of physics.
The singer has won a Grammy and three Latin Grammys, and has sold 27 million albums.
"It's been a terrific year for me," she told "Good Morning America" today. "What else can I ask from life?"
Shakira's first mostly English album, "Laundry Service," was released in 2001. Her latest album, "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2," featuring the song, "Don't Bother," was released this week.
She sang "Don't Bother" and "Illegal" this morning on "GMA" as part of the program's Women Rule Concert Series.
