EXPERIENCE INNOVATIVE DESIGNS INSPIRED BY THE ELEMENTS OF NATURE.
Maui Arts & Cultural Center and the PA’I Foundation present MAMo at the MACC for the fifth consecutive year featuring emcees Kumu Hula Vicky Takamine and Kumu Hula Robert Cazimero. A component of the Maoli Arts Movement, the wearable art show presents Hawaiian design in fabric and clothing — specifically in terms of cultural motif — that makes it so much more than a mere runway fashion show. Many traditional Hawaiian patterns and designs take their visual clues from nature. See the best in this year’s wearable art from designers including Kawika Lum-Nelmida, Kehaulani Nielson, Kanoelani Davis, Ari South, Anna Kahalekulu, Lufi Luteru, Keoua Nelson and Micah Kamohoali’i. Tickets are $35, $45 and $65/VIP, which includes admittance to advance trunk show, plus applicable fees. For tickets and more information, call 242-7469, visit www.mauiarts.org or the box office. Get an early jump of what you can expect Saturday at a free talk story event with designers Thursday. See listing under Thursday, May 31 on page 12 for more details.
